Personal Interview (Panel Style)
A two minute personal interview with the judges. You will be judged on your personality, your confidence with who you are, and your likeability. They are seeking the real you. They are not looking for particular answers to their questions. You need to treat this phase as if you were having a conversation with family and friends. Just be you.
Fitness in Aerobic Wear or Swimsuit
You will be judged on overall health, fitness, poise and confidence on stage. You will be judged on your personality and confidence in which you display on stage, and do you have an attractive feminine body for your body type. While being physically fit is important, we also want to make sure you are healthy. We are not seeking the thinnest young lady with six-pack abs, we seek the real you. Healthy skin is also considered.
Elegance in Evening Gown
Floor Length gowns only. You are judged on gracefulness, style, confidence and poise. Judges will be looking for that overall beautiful aura in which you display on stage. How you wear the gown and how your carry it on stage. Does the gown choice reflect your personal style? Does it fit well? Does it make that lasting impression? Gown choice is important, however cost is not. In fact cost is not even considered.
Overall Impression
Judges will use this category and only this category as their preferential opportunity. Did you make a positive impression on them? Were you likable, personable and approachable? In other words, are you Miss Tourism USA?
Final On-Stage Question & Answer (Semi-Finalist Only)
The judges are looking at the ease in which you discuss your views and ideas on the environment, culture, travel, and tourism. They are not looking at whether you know all the facts; rather do you effectively communicate in general terms that the general public would relate to and understand.
National Costume Parade (Optional)
There will be a cultural costume presentation during the National Costume Parade. Contestants may model a cultural costume of their choice that they feel represents their unique cultural heritage and ethnic background. Contestants may also choose an outfit that they feel represents their city, state, or region or the USA as a whole. The National Costume Parade is not in itself a scored area of competition. However, the contestant’s presentation during the National Costume Parade can be considered into the Overall Impression category, and therefore have an influence on preliminary scores and the outcome of the pageant. Judges will also vote for a Best in National Costume from among the contestants. Contestants who choose not to wear a costume during the National Costume Parade may choose to wear an all-black cocktail dress and will be provided with an American flag.
Talent Competition (Optional)
There is an optional talent competition that contestants with talents can choose to enter. Talent is limited to a maximum of 1 ½ minutes. Talent will be presented after the Final Question for Miss semifinalists and will not influence the overall outcome of the pageant. Judges will evaluate the following qualities: Execution and skill, technical difficulty, confidence, discipline and dedication, facial expression and on stage personality, entertainment value and showmanship, interpretation of the selection, originality and creativity, costuming and effective use of any props, accuracy and recovery from mistakes, choreography, effectiveness of opening and finale, and the total impact of a performance. Do I want to see that again?
Judging is based upon how a contestant presents herself in all categories on and off stage. Judges award points from 1.0 to 10.0 for each area of competition. The scores are tabulated and the contestant with the highest number of total points is crowned as the winner. Judges will be instructed to only score each phase of competition within the parameters of that particular segment and not to let previous phases influence their score. Judges score each delegate independently and without consulting any person or persons associated with the pageant, sponsors or judges.
